Lightning strike kills herdsman and 12 cows in Kaduna
A tragic lightning strike on Sunday, March 30, 2025, claimed the life of a herdsman and 12 cows in Matuak Giwa, Bondon District, Moro’a Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna.
The incident, which occurred around 4:30 pm, saw Ibrahim Likit, a young herder from Bauchi State, struck by a powerful thunderstrike while seeking shelter from the rain alongside his cattle.
The lightning struck suddenly, killing both the herder and his 12 cows instantly.
Simon Ayuba, the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, described the scene as tragic, noting that the herder and the livestock died on the spot.
“The herder, along with 12 cows, died on the spot. It was a tragic occurrence that has left the community in shock,” Ayuba said.
Mallam Tanko Isiyaka, the Ardo of Bondon District, confirmed the fatal incident, extending his condolences to the family of the deceased.
He urged residents to offer prayers and support for the grieving family. The herder was laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
