APC chairman slumps and dies during reconciliation meeting in Kogi

The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has passed away after reportedly collapsing during a reconciliation meeting for the party held in Iyara, the local government’s central location.

Solomon is said to have fainted on Friday, August 21, during the meeting aimed at addressing internal conflicts and encouraging unity among APC members in the region.

It has been reported that he received first aid at the meeting site prior to being transported to a hospital in Kabba, where he was sadly declared dead upon arrival. This meeting was organized by former chairman of Ijumu LGA, Funsho Olumoko, to help mend divisions and resolve issues in preparation for upcoming political activities.

According to reports, a prior reconciliation attempt had reached an impasse due to claims of a leadership crisis within the local APC, which led Solomon, along with other party leaders and government officials, to leave the meeting in frustration. The follow-up meeting on Friday was meant to unite local political leaders, executives from the local government and wards, as well as representatives of women, youth, and government officials from all 15 wards in Ijumu.

The news of Solomon’s passing has elicited condolences from federal representatives of the area, such as Senator Sunday Karimi, who serves the Kogi West Senatorial District, and Hon. Salman Idris from the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. They referred to Solomon as a devoted party member, a skilled grassroots mobilizer, and a significant contributor to the APC’s development in Ijumu and Kogi West.

“He was a peacemaker, a bridge builder, and a politician at the grassroots level who upheld the principles of the APC. His loyalty, dedication, and commitment to the party were remarkable. His passing is a significant loss not only to his family and Ijumu LGA but to the entire APC community in Kogi State,” stated Senator Karimi.
