Don’t migrate customers forcefully to estimated billing – NERC warns DisCos
The Nigerian Power Administrative Commission (NERC) has given a harsh admonition to power Circulation Organizations (DisCos) against driving clients with broken meters into the assessed charging framework. The controller stressed that such activities repudiate its mandates and disregard client privileges.
In an explanation delivered on Monday, November 18, NERC communicated worry over reports that a few DisCos are training clients to apply and pay for the substitution of broken or out of date meters inside their establishment regions.
“The Nigerian Power Administrative Commission knows that some Appropriation Organizations (DisCos) have educated clients to apply and pay for the substitution of broken and old meters inside their establishment regions,” the assertion read.
The commission featured that this training conflicts with its Organization No. NERC/246/2021, which administers the Organized Substitution of Broken and Old End-use Client Meters in the Nigerian Power Supply Industry (NESI).
As per the mandate, it is the obligation of the DisCos to supplant any flawed or outdated meters at no expense for the client, gave the harm was not brought about by the client. Besides, the request forbids the constrained relocation of clients with useful meters to the assessed charging system.
NERC reaffirmed its obligation to protecting customer privileges and authorizing consistence among its licensees. “The not entirely settled to safeguard clients’ inclinations by guaranteeing adherence to administrative principles and will force punishments on rebellious licensees,” the assertion added.
Clients have been asked to report any cases of rebelliousness to NERC through its assigned channels. This cautioning comes in the midst of progressing difficulties in the Nigerian power area, where meter substitution and charging straightforwardness stay critical worries for shoppers.
