Liverpool are allegedly preparing to challenge their Premier League rivals Manchester City for the signature of the versatile Barcelona midfielder Frenkiede Jong in 2022.
The 24-year-old Dutchman’s future at the Camp Nou outfit is currently being called into question, with Blaugrana understood to be open to a sale next year amid their financial problems.
A recent report stated that the Citizens had approached the Catalans with a €90 million (£75 million) bid for the Netherlands star, who has again been an important player for his team this term.
However, according to a report from InternationalBusiness Times, Jurgen Klopp’s side are also keen to bring the player to the English top-flight either in January or during next summer’s transfer market.
The report goes on to say that the Reds view Frenkieas the ideal replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who departed Anfield last summer to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.
He has scored nine times and grabbed 14 assists in 106 appearances for the La Liga giants since making the switch from Ajax in the summer of 2019.
