Police arrest three after angry mob beat suspected robber to d3ath in Calabar, recover firearm
The cross River country Police Command has arrested 3 suspects over the okay!lling of a suspected armed robber in Calabar.
The suspect was once beaten unconscious by an irritated mob in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026 after he allegedly tried to rob a female inside the Abangasang area of Mbora road.
The spokesperson of the command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the command stated the suspect was once rushed to the sanatorium, in which he used to be suggested d3ad.
“The pass River state Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, within the early hours of Sunday, 25th January 2026, successfully intervened to save you a mob motion against a suspected armed robber who used to be allegedly attempting to rob a lady in Calabar,” the announcement study.
“The operation caused the healing of a Beretta pistol with three live 9mm rounds of ammunition and the arrest of people concerned inside the mob assault.
“The suspect, who used to be beaten subconscious by way of an angry mob at Abangasang area, Mbora avenue, Calabar, used to be rushed to the college of Calabar teaching hospital (UCTH) for clinical attention. unluckily, the victim, but to be identified, was pronounced d3ad on the medical institution within the early hours of this morning.”
The command said 3 suspects are at present in police custody and are helping with the continued investigation.
“The sufferer’s frame has been evacuated and deposited on the UCTH mortuary for protection and autopsy, whilst a comprehensive investigation into the situations surrounding the incident continues,” it delivered.
The Commissioner of Police in cross River country, CP Rashid Afegbua, defined the operation as an indication of the command’s dedication to crime prevention, protection of lives and adherence to the rule of thumb of law.
He condemned mob action and urged participants of the general public handy over suspects to the police for right investigation and prosecution.
This incident comes amid ongoing efforts by police forces to warfare armed robbery and vigilante violence in urban regions.
